A song about the last trip my mother and I took to our ancestral home in the Scottish Highlands. We drove all over, exploring the land of our two clans. A precious time.

BACK IN THE HIGHLANDS

On our last trip together
 we sailed across the sea
to the land of the purple heather,
to the land of our ancerty.
 W drove through rugged mountains
and we stared out at the sea
and we stood there wrapt in wonder
in that ancient mystery.

The sea it roars like thunder
and the sun breaks through the rain.
We were there one last time togehr,
we were back in the Highlands again.

On our last trip together
we walked on sacred land.
We felt the pull of ancient blood,
the calling of our clan.
Our forebears seemed to cry out to us
across the centuries' span:
"Welcome home to the Highlands,
you are home in your native land."

The sea it roars like thunder
and the sun breaks through the rain.
We were there one last time together,
we were back in the Highlands again.
